San Diego Union-Tribune: New polling leaves union-backed San Diego sales tax increase still iffy for November ballot
Measure E (a deeply flawed 1% sales tax hike) was rejected by voters in 2024. Supporters of a new #SanDiego sales tax increase claim it will be different this time, with oversight, audits, and guarantees that the additional revenue would be restricted “mostly” to infrastructure projects. A close reading of the actual text of the ballot measure will be needed to determine if these promises have any validity. Notably absent is any sunset clause on the proposed tax increase. If approved the tax increase would be permanent.
